Please God, stop the rain

Like many villages in India, the Sita Rama Puram village in northwest Andhra grew up around a wealthy farmer who hires the local people to work on his farm. Though Hindu, the farmer did not object when many of the villagers, including those who worked in his fields, became Seventh-day Adventists. He even noticed that his Adventist workers were more diligent and faithful in their work, honest in their dealings, and lived more peaceable lives than the other villagers. They were also very … [Read more...]

Keep preaching

As Jonathan entered the village of Annemelia, he obtained permission from the village elders to hold meetings for 15 nights. To his surprise, more than 300 people gathered to hear something besides town chatter, and attendance never dropped. Then it happened. On the 13th evening, the topic turned to idols as Jonathan preached from Psalms 115:5–8: “They have mouths, but they speak not; eyes have they, but they see not; they have ears, but they hear not; they have hands, but they handle … [Read more...]

Just one month later, I received a letter from Henry Kamau, requesting help for him and his deaf friends in Mombasa, Kenya. Many letters later, there is wonderful growth of the deaf ministry in Africa. Reaching Ghana When Harrison Antwi asked for help because he noticed that the Adventist Church in … [Read more...]

Those gods on the shelf

VISAKHAPATNAM, India—Gospel Outreach worker Joseph felt strongly impressed to visit a certain house as he began work in one village. During his visit, he noticed the family gods lined up on a shelf, their stony faces blindly staring over the room. “Let me ask you, can those gods see you?” he asked. “Can they hear you? Do they ever talk to you?” The family admitted they did not. “How then can they bring you salvation, or help you with anything?” Joseph asked. “I began to … [Read more...]
