The great need for mission outreach in the 10/40 Window is being featured in the cover story and editorial of the current (March 2013) issue of the Gleaner (online at  www.gleaneronline.org/issuearchive), which is published by the North Pacific Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. Titled “Gospel Outreach: Sharing Jesus With the 10/40 Window,” the article emphasizes the privilege and responsibility of each Christian to have a part in sharing the gospel on a global scale—not just … [Read more...]

Kids on a mission

A group of creative kids in Walla Walla, Wash., acted out an original holiday play,  A Victorian Christmas. Approximately 40 people attended the home production, which raised $375 to help sponsor Bible workers in the 10/40 Window. Among those in the play were Clara Scully and Jalie Rasmussen, Jolan Rasmussen, and Allie Scully and Breanna Scully. Three other girls, Lauren Lofthouse, Claire Lofthouse and Josie Parks, also participated. “Christmas is not all about presents,” says Allie, … [Read more...]

Miracle of the website

As the Adopt-a-Worker program has developed this year, we’ve often seen God’s leading and timing. The adoptaworker.org website is no exception. Early on, we had settled on “Adopt a Worker” as the name for the program because it’s easy to remember and self-explanatory. Initially we thought we’d simply include program and worker information within the main Gospel Outreach website. However, some of the website technology is new to us. We decided it might be best to keep it separate … [Read more...]

Children’s literacy centers introduce people to Jesus

Students and instructors of all eight children’s literacy centers (CLCs) in the eastern Uttar Pradesh region of northern India conducted Vacation Bible Schools during their summer break. Parents and other village families were so impressed by the changes in the children’s lives that 23 adults accepted Jesus and were baptized. The Vacation Bible Schools became community events, with children from other schools participating along with the CLC students. Indu, the instructor in the village … [Read more...]

Unexpected dunking

After a long and rocky boat ride, I and seven Gospel Outreach workers arrived on Balut Island, the southernmost point of land in the Philippines, early on March 9—my 71st birthday. After worshipping with some of the 100 church members there and witnessing a dance of the B’laan tribe, the main ethnic group on the island, we boarded three small “bangka” boats to head to the nearby village of Patilwaso. A bangka, sometimes called a pump boat, is a canoe with outriggers and an engine. Rey … [Read more...]

Just one touch

A young policeman and his wife, Ravanamma, prayed frequently in their temple and offered sacrifices to their many gods, hoping for a child. But years passed, and still their arms were empty. They prayed more earnestly and offered more expensive offerings. Then they spent a week faithfully attending all the services at a famous Christian temple 120 miles (200 km) away, but months later they still had no sign of a child. They were becoming increasingly desperate. A Gospel Outreach worker … [Read more...]

School for deaf coming to Philippines

Sarah Famisaran, worker for the deaf in Mindanao, recently joined a team from North America to dedicate the Sulads* School for the Deaf, which is under construction near Malaybalay and will be the first Adventist school for the deaf in the Philippines. The group continued to Mountain View College, where nine deaf people were baptized by Jeff Jordan, a pastor from Collegedale, Tenn. Several more asked him to return next year to baptize them. The work for the deaf in the Philippines is … [Read more...]

A day in the life

I am a Gospel Outreach worker for the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Kalyanpur. A woman named Rajkumari lives in the village of Kilauni, which is near our church. Rajkumari was possessed by an evil spirit. She went here and there, consulting many people and doctors, but no matter what she did there was no improvement in her condition. Finally family members asked us to pray for Rajkumari. My wife and I went to her house and prayed for her regularly. Miraculously, by the grace of God, our … [Read more...]

Triumph of the Lord’s Spirit

Chitukulla David, a Gospel Outreach worker, had been assigned to raise up a new church in a village in India. There were only two or three Adventist believers living in the village, and David worked with them to find people who would listen to the Gospel. The work was going very slow, but one by one new converts were added to the little company until nearly half of the village had joined the Adventist group. It soon became evident that the devil didn’t like this and was resisting and … [Read more...]

Why am I keeping Sunday as Sabbath?

Methari Anand Kumar was studying in a parochial school, but in the 10th grade he ran out of money. He left school and made his way to the huge city of Hyderabad, India. There he started a small business selling office supplies and doing photocopying. To keep his expenses to a minimum, he lived with a family who gave him a place to stay in their home. Methari came from a Christian background, and one day a Seventh-day Adventist pastor made friends with him. The friendship led to Bible … [Read more...]
