Karma Lama and Karshng Lama stand near a stream at their baptismal service. Their baptisms are the first among the Tibetan people that have resulted from Gospel Outreach work.
Two Tibetan young people were baptized in December near the Tibet border. Karma Lama, 22, and Karshng Lama, 24, are the first fruits of the work for Tibetans led by Kami Norbu Lama, a Gospel Outreach (GO) evangelist in Nepal, who is working for his own Tibetan people.
Lama, who has been serving as a GO worker for two years, reports that anyone who leaves the traditional religion is threatened with exclusion from the close-knit community. Challenges are not new to the Tibetan people, and several others on both sides of the Tibet-Nepal border are looking forward to baptism as soon as the weather permits this spring.
The Nepal field is developing plans to enhance the opportunities for Tibetans in Nepal to embrace the Adventist Christian faith. These plans include:
- Providing further training for the newly baptized young men so that they can become effective witnesses to their people.
- Arranging for children from Tibetan families to attend Adventist schools.
- Beginning an FM radio broadcast in the Tibetan language.
- Developing more literature adapted to the Tibetan culture.
- Helping Tibetan believers acquire a place of worship.
Your gifts will help support the work in Tibet and elsewhere.
