Philippines—It was a comical scene. Two men were struggling with a wayward cow. They tried various tactics—pulling its horns, swatting its rump, tugging its tail—but the stubborn animal refused to move.
I offered assistance. The men stepped aside, listening as I imitated the cries of a distressed calf. To their astonishment, the cow followed me.
“Unbelievable!” the men exclaimed. “Even cows obey you!”
Ama Shaolin, one of the men, pastors a religious group. As we began talking, he spoke of feeling a void in his current faith. Our conversation lasted about three hours.
I left knowing that the time we spent together was valuable. Perhaps the seeds of truth sown in Ama’s heart will soon blossom, making him an instrument of change within his clan and throughout his village.
