A flight student climbs away from the runway while practicing a go-around with her instructor. Suddenly the engine sputters.
“What is going on here?” she asks.
Quickly realizing the gravity of the situation, she releases control and puts her hands in the air.
“On you. Your controls,” she says to the instructor, who immediately takes over and safely lands the plane.
No matter our financial status, level of education, skin color, politics, religion, country of origin, looks, weight, connections… we’re all in a spiritual mayday situation. The engine sputters. We’re moments away from crashing.
But we’re not alone.
Jesus sits in the cockpit with us—not just as an instructor, but as a Savior too. That’s the good news we have to share with those who haven’t yet had an opportunity to hear. A safe landing is guaranteed the moment we breathe the prayer, “On You, Lord. Please take control! I’m not equipped to deal with this. You are.”
Pray it. Share it.
David, the psalmist, realized the source of power and deliverance as he wrote: “The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid?” (Psalm 27:1).
