PRESIDENT’S REPORT
2024: Gospel Outreach year in review
During this past year, the world has continued to act out the fruits of sin. We’ve seen ongoing conflicts, wars, coercion, censorship, political unrest and financial instability. People often seem more divided than ever before. And yet the calling for Christians is clear: Go ye! Share good news!
Gospel Outreach exists to enlarge God’s kingdom in the 10/40 Window. Following is a year-in-review update with Brent Scully, president.
Q: What are your thoughts about the times in which we live and how it relates to mission?
A: Wherever people prioritize doing God’s work and advancing the kingdom, the devil is always on the attack, seeking to divide and disrupt. Prayer is essential for effective mission work. Gospel Outreach Bible workers need heaven’s protection and guidance every moment of every day. We need that here in the office too. Our prayer team will always be the muscle behind mission.
Q: Please share a couple of mission highlights from this past year.
A: The Sunshine Orchard Learning Center, located along the border between Thailand and Myanmar, grew by leaps and bounds! For years, Myanmar kids have been coming down the mountain seeking an education as well as safety from ethnic conflicts, and we couldn’t turn them away! Most recently, enrollment increased from 650 to around 850 students—each one is hearing about Jesus and potentially taking the gospel home to their families.
We also continue to hear reports of work among Islamic religious leaders in various countries. A number of these leaders have become followers of Jesus and in their faith communities are sharing what they’ve learned.
Q: In what ways have you seen God’s hand at work among the office staff?
A: Our office staff is a group of committed, dedicated volunteers, mostly retired people. Many are strong leaders who have carried weighty responsibilities, but when they come here they humbly and graciously work together as a team.
When one volunteer leaves, God inspires another person to come fill the gap—someone with just the skills needed, and the work continues. The donors keep giving, and Bible workers keep bringing people to Jesus.
Q: What key goals were achieved last year?
A: We launched a support/supervision/ accountability system to help ensure that Bible workers have what they need to work efficiently and effectively in the 10/40 Window.
A year ago, we prayed God would bring volunteers with skill sets in accounting, fundraising and planned giving/trust services. He filled those needs, and He also brought dedicated young staff members. We praise God for each new person who is now a part of our local GO family.
Last year we also prepared our organization for future growth by purchasing, learning and utilizing additional technology. We can now process gifts and distributions to the mission field more efficiently.
And we’ve continued to expand awareness of needs in the 10/40 Window through mission rallies in the Southern Union. We’ve been thrilled with the responses there—God has willing, eager hearts in Tennessee, Florida and beyond!
Q: What would you like to see happen as we move through 2025?
A: I would like to see a GO chapter in every union in the North American Division. We need people to help organize rallies and coordinate booths at events. If you know a retired leader who has a heart for missions, please let him/her know of this volunteer ministry opportunity.
I would like to see a sister GO office established in Australia. We have sister offices in Brazil and Canada, and we think Australia should be next.
Finally, I would challenge our donors to fund 200 new Bible workers. The field is ripe and the laborers few. We can add 200 workers with an additional $500,000 per year in donations. GO is a donor-driven organization. We at headquarters only coordinate and manage. You are the drivers of this mission!
We are grateful for your trust and for your commitment to the Great Commission! Thank you for responding to the calling God has placed on your heart. It’s our privilege to serve alongside you!
