Alda was just a small girl in a large family. She had five brothers and four sisters. Everyone worshiped idols, but somehow Alda knew she wanted to become a Christian. She felt that something was missing in her life. She knew that Christians were people who were always happy. She couldn’t help but notice that her parents were constantly worried by financial problems and debts. They couldn’t even afford to send their children to school.
Alda decided that if she ever went to school, she would choose a Christian school. She wanted to learn more about Jesus. At home she was always cheerful and obedient. She had a brilliant mind and learned quickly.
One day a man knocked at the door. Alda had never seen the man before, so she called her mother. The man told them about special church meetings for children in the village and invited Alda to come. Her mother gave permission and attended with Alda.
Not long afterward the family moved to another small town.
Unfortunately, there wasn’t a church there at the time. However, a few years later a man knocked at the door. Alda greeted him. It was the same man who had come to their house in the previous village.
Alda was delighted as she listened to the man read from the Bible. She told him that she liked the stories and invited him to visit again.
The Bible worker came to their house every evening, gave Bible studies to Alda and told her the most interesting stories. As the parents watched their daughter listening to this man, they also began to sit and listen. That made Alda very happy. The truths they learned about the Sabbath and the commandment to keep it holy completely changed their lives.
After completing Bible studies, the entire family was baptized and joined the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Alda is especially thankful she was able to see her parents choose to live for Christ. Her faith is strong, and her desire now is to win all her relatives into this faith that has brought her family so much joy.
